What every invoice needs, whatever you sell
- Your details and theirs. Business name, phone and address on both sides. A customer cannot pay you from an invoice that does not say who you are.
- A number that never repeats. INV-001, INV-002. It is how the two of you refer to one invoice among many without describing it.
- A due date. The single thing most improvised invoices are missing, and the only thing that turns “they have not paid” into “they are late”.
- A line for each thing. Quantity, unit price, and what it was. One lump sum is a number somebody has to take on trust.
- How to pay you. Bank details on the invoice itself, not in a separate message that gets buried.
