- What is the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
- An invoice asks for money and has a due date. A receipt confirms money already received and has a payment method. Sending an invoice after you have been paid, or a receipt before, is the most common mix-up — and it is the one that makes your records impossible to reconcile later.
- What should a receipt include?
- Your business name and contact details, who paid you, how much, what it was for, the date, and how it was paid. A receipt number helps you find it again, and a signature line is worth having on anything handed over in person.
- How do I write a receipt for a part payment?
- Show the amount received and the balance still owing, both on the same document. Enter the total due in this generator and it prints both. A receipt that records the payment but not the outstanding balance is where disputes come from.
- Do I need to give a receipt in Nigeria?
- A customer is entitled to proof of payment, and for anything you intend to claim as a business expense both sides need a record. It also protects you: without one, a customer who has paid and a customer who says they have paid look exactly the same in your books.
- Does a receipt need to show VAT?
- If you are VAT registered and the sale carried VAT, show it. Your customer may need it to reclaim input VAT, and a receipt showing only a single figure makes that impossible.
